Expert Technical SEO Consultant
Melbourne’s expert technical SEO consultant who understands code. Unlike most SEO experts in Melbourne, why not choose someone who is not only an expert in SEO but also an expert in coding or IT in general?
What Is Technical SEO and Why Does It Matter?
Technical SEO makes sure Google bots and all other search bots like Bing, ChatGPT, and Claude are able to read and access everything on your website. Websites with correct technical SEO setup perform better in search and AI. Technical fixes help bots understand your website better and make sure your brand comes up in relevant searches and gets indexed for every single page across your site.
Designs that looks great but cant be read by search bots
We love animations on website elements. We want the website to look futuristic and have a WOW factor. But while making it look nice, we sacrifice speed and many other important factors that make a website rank.
Most websites are not made for search engines or AI readiness; they are made by graphic designers and developers who do not understand how search works. Graphic designers design things to make them look great while forgetting what the search engine needs. I have seen many websites where the topic on the page is non-existent because of a missing heading or content that is hidden in places bots can’t see.
Developers love javascript but do not why its needs to be server-side rendered
Developers are not worse, nor is it their fault. I am a computer science engineer myself with a master’s in IT. We are not trained to make websites for search bots.
A website with bad Core web Vitals performance
We are trained to make it look nice without worrying about speed or JavaScript elements that Google’s search bots are unable to render. Or even worse, we overload the page, making it bigger than 50 MBs, which means an average user on a 5G internet has to wait 5 min to load the site. You can imagine no one will wait for 5 min for a site to load; they would rather go to a competitor’s site that loads in under 5 seconds and gives them a lead or a conversion.
A website with no server-side rendering
I have seen brands with big marketing budgets with websites that look so amazing but have no existence in search due to issues with indexing and crawling. Just because the developers wanted to use new technologies like next.js or pages that do not show anything when the JavaScript is tuned off. This means when Google’s bot fetches a page, it sees an empty page or a page with completely different content (meta tags, headings or structured data).
Websites like no structure data, schema, breadcrumbs or site structure
Imagine a website with no structured data or schema, no internal linking and a bad site structure, making it harder for users and bots to find things on the website.
I see websites every day with cannibalisation issues where they have ended up creating similar pages for one search term and added them all to the menu, making it the worst UX and UI. These duplicate pages make it harder to select what page to rank, splitting the authority and making the whole website rank lower and lose traffic.
Websites with redirections (301 or 302)
Users do not realise when a page redirects, it just takes a second longer. But it makes a big difference to how Google bots see your page. With every 301 on your site, you are giving a hard time to Google’s bot, making its job harder as it has to climb from one page to another to crawl your site. Bad 301 or 302 links can even cause big ranking drops that lead to an overall decline in traffic.
A website with 404 not found pages
You would remember seeing a 404 page from time to time on websites; this is just the SEOs being lazy. These links do not need to exist; they need to be fixed by adding a proper link that takes the user to the page they wanted to see instead of a ‘404 Not Found’ page. This is even worse when the page that had backlinks becomes a 404. This is quite common when websites change platforms and forget to do proper redirections, leading to huge drops in traffic due to Google bots being unable to find a page.
Google Search Console Issues and resolution
All the issues that we see on the website, Google’s bot or AI bots see them as well and then add them to the indexing section in GSC under ‘pages’. If you just verify your website in GSC, you can see all these issues, like pages that are discovered but not crawled. Pages with redirects or pages that are 404 now. This is the job of an SEO consultant to go through Search Console every other week, audit and fix what issues come up.
Technical SEO Audit Process
The technical SEO audit process may differ based on the CMS of your website and the size of your site. However, this is the basic step-by-step process for an average site for a technical SEO audit.
Step 1: Gather All Access
The first step is to get access to all relevant properties like the website, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, the server, hosting and all other properties based on the website, like Google Merchant Centre for e-commerce or special call tracking software or CRMs like HubSpot to check for end-to-end tracking.
Step 2: The Audit
The real one is auditing. In this step the actual audit happens based on your needs. Starting from GA and GSC to see the shortfalls in performance and finding gaps to address all the issues. Looking into the CMS code source to understand what the bots see vs what the user sees. Also finding the technical issues like 404s, 301s or server 5xx errors.
Step 3: Reporting and Presentation
The important step is to provide a proper report with a section by section outlining what the issues are and what the solution looks like with a timeframe to fix these issues. The report is then presented to the client so that they can understand in depth what these issues are in layman’s language that is easy for them to digest.
Step 4: Audit Implementation
Once the reporting and presentation are finished, the actual process of fixing the issues starts. This can take days to weeks depending upon how many issues are found. Some issues are quick to fix and are like low-hanging fruit, while some take much longer and need a proper strategy.
Step 5: Monitor
The point of this whole exercise is to get more traffic and increase brand visibility to eventually have more conversion or revenue. The biggest thing that often consultants miss is to monitor the results of changes they are making so that they can make better decisions and get even more traction.
Why you need a freelance technical SEO consultant, not an agency
Agencies are great until they are not. With my experience working in agencies, I can tell you are just a number for them. They have more clients than they can handle and are overworked. Most of the audits they give you use templated strategies, while they tell you this is made for you. It’s just the same template they give to everyone, and they get you in to sign this big contract that you cannot cancel before 12 months without losing money.
Freelance SEO consultants like me work only for a few clients and do not provide cookie-cutter strategies. We work hard to give the best that is out there to provide you with meaningful suggestions that get the maximum benefit.

A technical SEO helps to fix things normal SEOs can’t see. Hidden technical challenges that cost you higher rankings and traffic declines.
A technical SEO audit can take a minimum of a week and up to several weeks (4-6 weeks) depending on the size of your website. An average site with fewer than 50 pages can be completed within a week.
Regardless of your CMS, whether it’s Shopify or Magento, you need to make sure your website can be easily read by search bots like Google or Bing and new AI bots like ChatGPT or Claude.
A real SEO audit that is not a cookie-cutter starts from $1500 and can go up to $5000 for enterprise-level websites.
On-page SEO focuses on content, headings, and keywords, while technical SEO focuses on issues that block on-page work from having any effect on rankings or growth in general.
